This Site intends to assist those who are overweight or obese to understand in the simplest terms possible why being overweight is a product of American capitalism, no different than the fight against tobacco and cancer in the 60's and 70's.  

This has become a severe health issue at a truly alarming rate and must be addressed through Congress, no differently than Congress had done with the Tobacco industry in the 70s! This is a national health issue that has become an epidemic that is very solvable at a national congressional level. This severe health issue for which I'm speaking is a condition that generally means that many readers visiting this web page have grown overweight enough that a clinical medical staff member can diagnose them with having a metabolic disorder or syndrome. However, as I have experienced, you often get a fist held up and lectured on reducing portion size and exercising more, which I had been attempting to do all my life with adverse results.

This "thecarbfast.com" website's intended purpose is to help provide most so inclined overweight individuals with a valid working pancreas understand the virtuousness of my coaching approach towards teaching and helping them understand their nutritional weight loss needs, as well as provide them with what should become a handy supplemental reference for my forthcoming healthy weight-loss book.

You may be skeptical and disagree, but I have gained enough verifiable knowledge (backed by a significant amount of scientific study of the empirical evidence found in PubMed) to claim that I am both a nutritionist and a recovering diabetic! What should surprise you (as an educated reader) is that just as I had reached the precipice of being written off as a type 1 diabetic and prescribed insulin when my  A1c (glycated hemoglobin) had born a value of 11.1, is that I was able to prove the impossible to V.A. medical experts who were treating me, I cured myself. My doctor took me off all medication after only three months on a nutritional carb fast with a 2 lbs per week weight loss. At that time, the medical staff informed me that this was the first self-cured for this Doctor at this well-known veteran's hospital where I had been receiving treatment! 

When first diagnosed about Nineteen Ninety Eight (1998), I began looking into a scientific understanding of the root cause for why I became stricken with this chronic metabolic disease! It took over 25 years to successfully put my diabetes into remission and be proclaimed cured by my board-certified physician. Why I had become ill was very perplexing to me because I was very a very athletic person in my youth and very health-conscious. Yet, it was my early flawed bias that anyone's ill health was inherited at birth that led me to the faulty premise that my inherited genetic traits would protect me against commonly well-known health issues such as diabetes (Which I knew would kill me if not cured). 

Unfortunately, I was led to believe early on that my serious health issue was a calorie-in/calorie-out sort of control problem, which could be resolved by cutting back on my portion size and by putting significantly more effort into exercising. However, I soon discovered this was an invalid premise and a medical fallacy, perpetuated many years later by many misguided professionals, to wit, medical board-certified doctors who claimed that they understand diabetes as an individual's lack of nutritional self-control. 

On this website, I will present conclusive scientific evidence that you can reverse your metabolic issue and lose weight by limiting your intake of non-essential nutrients. But still, you do not need work harder by exercise more; all you need to do is stop eating processed sugary foods, and concentrate on consuming a diet that focuses on high-density nutrients in the right amounts! By working harder and exercising more may do irretrievably severe damage to your body and probably not cure a thing. (I challenge you to try and give me an example of a single person who has cured themselves through exercise alone! Read the 'Biggest Looser Study' available through the NIH PubMed site!)

It may or may not surprise you, but there is a growing amount of incontrovertible evidence proving that the premise, "You can fix the problem through concentrated exercise alone," is not only ignorantly illogical, it should also be considered a dangerous fallacy. Look for yourself, and you'll find ample freely available scientific proof in PubMed, (obesity rate) which indicates that the insidiously excessive caloric intake we have in our Standard American Diet (a.k.a. SAD) is making us sick.  (Try out this query: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=standard+american+diet+obesity  )and you'll find at least nine research papers relating to this argumentative premise.)

Is there a direct correlation between chronic metabolic deceases and our federal funded farming subsidization? Has this brought about a low-cost overabundance of harmful nutrients? (namely the monosaccharides and disaccharides like refined starches, flours & sugars) . 

Here is just one example our wrong way thinking with regards to "The Biggest Loser Study" and it's effect on metabolic adaptation :

Quoting from this study, 'Metabolic adaptations to weight loss'; "These results support a growing consensus that metabolic adaptation occurs during periods of negative energy balance... However, unlike the matched RYGB (Roux-en Y gastric bypass) group, metabolic adaptation persisted six years after the Biggest Loser competition despite regaining two-thirds of the lost weight, possibly due to increases in physical activity."

What you should be taught to understand is that if you are alive, you are burning calories, and will lose the weight, once you reduce down your caloric intake to just the essentials, and remove fat producing non-essentials from your diet.

It sounds simple. Just stop eating the bad stuff and exercise more? Right? 

Well, please take my word, it's not as easy as it sounds, yet it's not too difficult to learn how to eat the right nutrition and effectively maintain focus on staying in control of your caloric intake.

Take it from someone who's had the experience first-hand, the best thing a person can do for themselves is not to have others prepare meals for you, but to learn how to cook your meals. However, I also know that this lifestyle is not always possible! Often, it depends on your means of making a living (because the more underprivileged you are, the harder this becomes). Still, it's possible to lose weight regardless of your hard-working lifestyle with a healthy and nutritious dietary mind set that is better than many misguided doctors will suggest! Intentionally, "The Carb Fast" was developed to be well within everyone's budget, and much cheaper than remaining ignorant of its suggested health benefits!

What is "The Carb Fast" in a nutshell?

The NIH (National Institute of Health) is the U.S. government institutional home of the PCB (PubMed - NCBI - NIH, our U.S. Congressional funded database of worldwide scientific medical studies on nutrition and deceases. On NCBI Web Page, "Calorie Restriction and Fasting Diets: What Do We Know?" a 'FAST' is defined as "not 'eating' at all or severely 'limiting' intake during certain times of the day, week, or month. (The page also states next that, "A practical effect of a fasting diet may be fewer calories because there is less time for regular eating." However, it's reasonably unclear to me here what is meant by 'regular eating'. For me, much of their information can be misconstrued as confusing in this way.) It is historically accurate to say  that the human species has unwittingly fasted in some form for as long as man has walked the the face of the earth. But, it's only in modern times that earnestly educated reader will find humanity  humanity has been lulled into a the now existing situation where the average consumer has an excessive abundance of unhealthy nutrients in their diets. One example of this is the excessive high sugar containing,  high fructose corn syrup that goes on to become a profitably cheap additive in highly additive can of soda pop in order to commercially persuade a consumer's unwitting propensity towards buying a producer's capitalist product. (Known to researchers as the sweet spot.) And, it's making the average person in America fat and sick! (Studies, like the one referenced above published in the 'New England Journal of Medicine ' on 12/19/2019 with its obesity prediction, have found that there's been a heighten acceleration in obesity over the recent 30-year span, and this appears to be just as dire as that of the Global Warming predictions)

In my fasting approach to weight loss, I recommend that individuals reduce down their caloric consumption of nutrients to that of the Adequate Intake (AI) of essential nutrients as well as increasing their consumption of highly satiating foods, and developing the mindful habit of adequate sound sleep with low impact movement style exercise. (The AI is a freely available set of nutritional tables published by the National Academy of Medicine (NAM-FNB) as a dietary guideline.) However, I recommend that the amount of healthy gut nutrients, prebiotics (dietary fiber), and probiotics (good bacteria), be increased to a more robust level than is recommended by the Dietary Reference Intake (DRI). Prebiotics are dietary fibers as defined by the NAM (like the cellulose polysaccharides wheat bran and oat bran), and probiotics are enzymes and good bacteria found in health-promoting products (like milk kefir). And I recommend that you make a concerted attempt to eliminate non-essential nutrients, so that you are consuming recommended amounts of essential nutrients which is more in line with the recommended caloric intake based on your BMI (Body Mass Index.) In other words, "Stop eating all those empty carbohydrates which are not essential for good health, and start eat an adequate amount of essential nutrients like the prebiotic polysaccharides (a.k.a. "roughage")." In the NIH PubMed research database,  a significant amount of specific scientific research data does exists to validate my weight loss theory.  I'm fervently recommending that you don't starve yourself to lose the weight as Angus Barbieri did, because it will most certainly cause you a life threatening (mortal) issue with your heart muscle. However, I'm most confident from  scientific studies I've researched on the Blue Zone centenarians and lab animals, that once you've begin a reduced calorie, nutrition dense lifestyle, coupled with a moderate exercise plan, that you'll not only extend your life, you'll also rejuvenate your body and fix much of the oxidative damage cause by a poor American one. 

I'll not suggest that you should tightly counting calories, nor will I ever advise you into incorporating a heavy exercise routine into your lifestyle to achieve the type of success you want. And, this is because my research show that it's contrary to how the Blue Zone centenarians live, and it's not how I was able reverse and cure my own diabetes! But if you're willing to look into a Blue Zone Centenarian's life style, such as those in Okinawa Japan, you'll find that they've been taught from an early age to reduce their caloric consumption, get plenty of rest, and to have plenty of social interaction with friend and family, is the best way of achieving longevity!  Unfortunately, Westernization in Okinawa after World War has changed this paradigm, and the traditional lifestyle of living a long and happy life is now at risk of extinction in both the Okinawan and Sardinia hills. But, it's ethically much more important for me that I that I adhere to the lifestyle I teach as an example that I have faith in my own research and not a hypocrite.  In this way, I'm able to show people that I am the proof that my technique of significantly reducing all non-essential nutrients like sugar, (which will increase  triglycerides and bad LDL,) can actually reverse their type 2 diabetes painlessly! 

If you study fasting as thoroughly as I have, you will find that Michael Mosley's 5:2 fast is one of the best methods of weight loss and maintenance in use today. It makes much more scientific sense to attempt the weight loss in this way than with any other dietary method. This 5:2 technique is what I am currently using in my lifestyle to maintain the proper weight, and I'm monitoring this through my inexpensive smart phone and blue tooth BMI scale.  I have found this 5:2 program to be it's a very simple plan that doesn't cause the insidious hunger problems that seem to plague other crazy weight loss fads where the weight scale shows your hard work fading and my unhealthy belly fat remains a problem. Therefore, I highly recommend that you make it a habit of taking your weight daily after you've awakened for the day, and used the rest room to relieve yourself. By using this technique, you'll develop a habit that will help ensure that you can arrest the progress of an unwelcome upward trend in your weight management by beginning an intermittent fast before you've  developed a metabolic problem with diabetic symptoms. 

So in summary, if you are able to drop those bad insulin spiking sugars and starches from your diet, you will assuredly lower your caloric intake significantly enough to burn fat and loose the weight. Effectively, my carbohydrate fasting technique will remove the sugar (lowering a1c) from your blood and thus helping you to become type 2 diabetes free! Doesn't it make sense? Stop ingesting a toxin, and you wont get so sick! Life is short, so why not life a happy life? My technique is to teach an individual how getting healthy scientifically studied nourishment (a.k.a. eating the right stuff) can actually fix a rather significant number of chronic illnesses such as type 2 diabetes, provided you can fix and promote a good gut microbiota. If you reference a freely distributed pdf publication  through PubMed, which I have linked to in this site's top navigation bar, "Popular Dietary Approaches," you will see that my approach is technically called a "Intermittent energy restriction (IER)" type of dietary approach. Although my dietary technique is clearly ketogenic, it shouldn't in any way be confused with what has been coined as a Keto Diet which is also known as Low Carb High Fat (LCHF).  Because their differences are distinct and significant. 

Yet, I plan to be very keen on providing you with a very specific dietary approach which involves ketosis to diminish a significant amount of visceral lipid and to reverse a significant number of metabolic issues, thus increasing and preserving the body's cellular longevity. However, when it comes to contract a preventable chronic illness, such a Coronavirus, everyone should be ultra-concerned about your diet as it relates to a metabolic problems such the free radical damage caused by extremely high carbohydrate consumption! 

Realistically yes, I do honestly expect you to be very skeptical about my technique! However, if you're prepared to dig into the research materials which are freely available through PubMed, you will most certainly find a nontrivial amount of scientific evidence confirming current health trends to fully validate my nutritional weight loss technique, which I've coined: "The Carb Fast".

A few Non-Trivial Notes of Caution:

Please don't let yourself to be hoodwinked into taking any supplements that could be as naturally deadly to you as hemlock, just because you're desperately wanting to loose some weight! Supplements can and do kill! 

And, please don't poison yourself with sweets.  Heavy doses of bad carbohydrates like Sucrose (a.k.a. cane sugar) will dangerously spike insulin levels. Don't blindly place your faith in a few ignorant experts who are making unverified claims which are alluring to your needs. It's possible that they are bias and may have been corrupted by their own capitalistic greed, and shady moral ethics! It has been scientifically proven that excessive consumption of refined processed foods will damage the majority of your body's vital organs. Refine sugar is not only an unnecessary nutrient, it can be very toxic to the body, (in other words, "A poison!" Depending on the chemical structure of a carbohydrate, (as with a simple monosaccharide verses a more complex polysaccharide), it will have different breakdown and absorption rates within your body, just as Fats and Proteins are different in the way they are digested. Therefore, most metabolic nutrients are not the same nutritionally. Excessively eating highly refined carbohydrates (like fructose and ethyl alcohol) will make you fat in a very bad way. Although, it can be argued that all calories are thermodynamically the same, macro-nutrients take different amounts of energy to process. For example, a banana is processed in very different way than an egg.

My final very important request is that you please eat more roughage (a.k.a Dietary fiber, cellulose, or polysaccharide)  and probiotic foods (like sauerkraut and kefir!)  And, I won't assume that you'll be sensible when attempting to do a 'Fast' (a.k.a. Caloric Restriction), but please for you own safety, you should ensure that you do so in a nutritionally scientific, well educated, and cautious manner by having your doctor evaluating your progress.  Please, don't allow death to become the outcome of what you think is 'The Cure for Your Diabetes'. Please stay Skeptical, and do the research for yourself to find the truth!

You're just as bad at the General Practitioner who has treated diabetic veterans who discredited my statement in my 2016 initial consultation, by holding up his fist and telling me that I was eating to much and how T2D was cronic and progressive, I was eating too much? You need a paradigm shift just as he did! Are you ignorant at the inflammatory effects of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA)?
